Half

Pronunciation: /hæf/ Explain

Half of something is one of two equal parts of that thing. Half of two apples is one apple. Half of 20 students is 10 students. Half is written in numeric notation as 1/2 or .

To halve something means to divide a geometric figure into two equal parts, or to divide a value by 2.

A prefix meaning half is hemi-. For example, hemisphere means exactly half of a sphere.
